Steeped in History; Always Evolving

Sergeant Peter E. Hart, originally from East Tennessee, rode with a fierce Union cavalry coined "The Dreaded Thirteen" where he and his brothers trained and fought alongside soldiers for their right to be free. He first rode down the tributary of the Chaplin River that now bears his name. In October 1862, Sgt Hart fought in the Battle of Perryville, KY where more than 16,000 southern and 22,000 northern troops vied for control of Kentucky. In terms of casualties for the number of forces engaged, Perryville was one of the bloodiest battles of the civil war. Sgt. Hart survived both the battle and the war. Fifty years later, on his recommendation, his son Joseph Hart, would buy a farm on that same creek. Our family still owns that farm today, which brings us to our rye whiskey.

Locally Owned and distilled in the heart of Danville, Kentucky

A Flavorful, Robust Spirit

The official daily ration of whiskey for American soldiers was abolished in 1832. Nevertheless, the consumption of whiskey was prevalent among soldiers on both sides of the Civil War. During the War, whiskey became harder and harder to get and much more expensive. In fact, in the same year as the Battle of Perryville, prohibition was declared to preserve grain for food. In any case, we like to think that Sgt. Hart may have secreted a canteen bottle in his saddle bags to fight off the October chill as he camped at Creekside. Today, we honor his memory with our own Sgt. Hart’s Creekside Rye Whiskey. A flavorful, robust spirit, commemorating our family farm’s patriarch and all who carry on his legacy.
